Just recently, my friends and I enjoyed lunch via some food trucks which are now allowed into Dallas. After our fun day at the DMA, we all hoped over to food truck row in Downtown Dallas. Food was yummy and cheap, but the atmosphere was the best. Also love the nostalgia of the trucks. I’ve always taken food trucks for granted but then my friends’s excitement for the trucks and their stories of social media followings for the trucks piped my interest further.

So what is all the hype with food trucks?

These days, food trucks have become hip & trendy gourmet trucks offering creative ethnical dishes at reasonable prices. Food trucks are so popular that people are even tracking their favorite gourmet trucks via social media groups such as facebook or twitter and are gaining national attention via TV on some top cooking channels.

One could even say that food trucks “originated” in Texas. Chuckwagons, created by Charles Goodnight,, the “father of the TX Panhandle” in 1866, to properly feed cooked meals during long cattle drives to men who would be on the “road” for months at a time.

I can’t believe just how popular they are?

The whole food truck following and idea sort of fascinates me. I don’t know why, but it does? Did you know that there are even food truck festivals and food truck “auto” shows? Awesome!

My first encounter with food trucks was in Europe: An all day concert in Ireland and frequenting 2 different food trucks outside the local grocery store, where we lived, in Germany. One food truck was Turkish food and the other German food. Both were awesome! I especially loved to get the different spicy dips from the Turkish truck as this was one of the few places, in Germany, to find such spicy and flavorsome food. Don’t get me wrong, German food is great, but I love food with LOTS of flavor and spice. Therefore, I loved visiting “my” Turkish food truck in Germany and was lucky to have it there! The trucks were also perfect for my husband and me as I could get my spicy Turkish food and he could get his favorite German food.

Here are some sites to check out to see where and when what food trucks will be in certain areas for Dallas.
