My friend, and Kappa sister from college, Sarah Bravo, co-founded Camp C.O.P.E., a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. This camp helps children of deployed and wounded service members cope with the transitions and effects of war, deployments, and injuries sustained by their soldiers. The camp serves with absolutely no cost to the children or their families.
Camp C.O.P.E. provides direct and indirect, age-appropriate, fun play-activities tailored to help the children cope better emotionally. Improved grades, an increase in healthy relationships as well as behavior are charted improvements. Parents are also educated for helping their children at home. Highly qualified and trained counselors deliver fun and therapeutic activities in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding.
News and Media coverage for this great camp has been debuted on Jimmy Kimmel, Oprah’s Live Your Best Life Walk, Dallas Morning News, KDH News, CBS News, ABC News, and more. To read a recent and fantastic article updated with some pictures and examples for the camp: The Fort Hood Sentinel.
This is a direct link to Camp C.O.P.E.’s website where you can also donate.
Even back in college, Sarah had such a caring and giving heart. She was always someone who thought of others and what she could do to volunteer or help someone else in need. I have a lot of good memories from our Kappa days and after, and feel blessed to know Sarah, and to see her spirit making a difference in the lives of so many others. Oh, and did I mention that Sarah is a first-time mom? That’s another great mother to join in with all of us on this road of motherhood.
